Creating a new Importer
Administration > File Importing >

File importing is the process of loading a file containing payment information into PayGate BACS for processing.  The original payment file may have been created in a application such as your accounts, finance or ERP package.

PayGate is capable of reading and understanding files in many different commonly used file formats.  So that PayGate can read a file you must create a File Importer.  File importers contain rules that allow PayGate BACS to understand how to read your payment file so that it can validate the payments and turn the file into a properly formatted BACS submission file.

Delimited Files

Delimited files use a special character, such as a comma, to separate the different fields of the file.  When a comma is used it tends to be called a CSV file.  Other common delimited files use semicolons and tabs as the delimiter.  PayGate Desktop can read almost any delimited file.  To create a delimited importer, follow this link.

Fixed Length Files

In a fixed length file the individual fields in a file are a constant or fixed length.  PayGate Desktop can read almost any fixed length file.  To create a fixed length importer, follow this link.

Legacy Format Files

Legacy format files are simple semicolon separated files used in PayGate and older Bacsess products.  It is included to allow our longstanding customers to easily migrate to PayGate Desktop . To create a legacy importer, follow this link .

Standard 18 Files

Standard 18 (AKA BACS18 or BACS Format) is the native file format for BACS submissions.  Many accounts and financial packages create an output file in standard 18 format - of varying quality.  PayGate BACS can read almost any standard 18 generated file.  To create a Standard 18 importer, follow this link.
